Release Date: 23/11/2018
Recorded for inclusion on his 2018 EP “Swallow Your Doubt”, Wayside’s instrumental was subsequently used on the credits of Faulkner’s 2018 award winning graduate film “I’m Addicted To You Don’t You Know That You’re Toxic”, a fine art documentary fim exploring queer men’s relationship to masculinity, shot and scored in a low fi 1980s aesthetic.
This single release contains the song finally in it’s full form with vocals as well as a club remix.
The song explores the fragility of male mental health, both gay and straight and the common symptoms and feelings related to dealing with depression and anxiety with it in an attempt to open up the conversation which is so often brushed under the carpet.
Swallow Your Doubt is the second EP from Irish pop act, PureGrand - which consists of 22 year old Dublin born art graduate, Luke Faulkner.
Using strong melodies and 1980s pop production styles, the EP deconstructs the idea of queer masculinity as well as a frank exploration of the complexities of dating and sex for gay men.
Inspired by bedroom pop and the DIY beginnings of artists like Marina & The Diamonds, PureGrand is entirely homemade, everything from the vocals to the artwork is created by Faulkner in his bedroom.
The EP was written on and off over the past year, while he learned to improve his production and songwriting abilities after he released his first EP - Synthetic Roots at the end of 2016. In this time there were two single releases, New Stroke and most recently Fallout.
Luke hopes to spend the next year developing a performance art inspired live act while continuing to work on new material.
